An exciting opportunity to join a technology team at the heart of a major B2B travel company.

As a Data Engineer, in the Distribution team, your goal is to enable the delivery of data products and reporting outputs which support the strategy and business objectives.

You will be responsible for conducting full product lifecycle analysis to include requirement definition, project delivery planning and solution design. You will develop analysis and reporting capabilities which collate, organize and interpret statistical information to make it useful to the business.

Key areas of focus for this role include the data and reporting products which support the expansion of Hotel program. Specifically, there will be a focus on the delivery of packaged reporting outputs externally to external customers and internally to the business. The role will also need to support efforts to ensure a consistent booking experience for the customer and assist in the investigation of issues which occur in the booking process.

 

Main responsibilities:

·       Interprets data, analyzes results using statistical techniques and provides ongoing reports.

·       Develops and implements data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

·       Acquires data from primary or secondary data sources and maintains databases.

·       Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets.

·       Filters and “cleans” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.

·       Works with management to prioritize business and information needs.

·       Locates and defines new process improvement opportunities.

 

Experience & education:

·       2-4 years experience in data analysis in an international environment and fast pace data product evolution, OR

·       Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant subject such as mathematics, economics, or computer sciences.

·       Preferred experience within the B2B travel, hospitality, airline, GDS sector or other global network service related companies

·       Preferred experience of communicating information concisely and clearly across geographies and teams.

·       Preferred experience with Agile development, including the use of project management tools (such as JIRA).

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs)

 

·       Excellent technical skills with commonly used data mining, workflow scheduling, data visualization and reporting tools – database tools (Impala, Hive, Spark, Oozie, R preferred, or equivalent SQL-based tools), Python, Excel, Tableau and Thoughtspot preferred

·       Strong data management, analytics and problem solving capabilities

·       Ability to hone analytical skills so that you can take complex data, draw conclusions that are actionable.

·       Ability for critical thinking - look at the numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings.

·       Ability to ensure vigilance in analysis to come to correct conclusions.

·       Capable of synthetic reasoning

·       Effective communication and organizational skills.
